Gallery programmes respond to the New Zealand curriculum to encourage cross-curricular links and build key skills.
Our programmes aim to:
- use personal experience as a starting point to engage with works of art.
- provide an understanding of the social and cultural contexts that gave rise to particular art works.
- examine works, which illustrate how people express their beliefs, values and feelings about the world.
- investigate how art is made, viewed and valued and the significance of these works to both individuals and societies.
- encourage students to analyse, interpret and evaluate meaning in art and to use appropriate terminology in articulating these ideas.
Learning Experiences outside the Classroom
The Ministry of Education supports our programmes, which combine an encounter with works of art followed by a practical workshop in our ArtStudio. The programmes assist teachers in delivering the curriculum by providing learning experiences in the unique environment provided by the gallery and its displays.
We also ensure that our programmes are flexible enough to address the achievement objectives at all levels and to facilitate learning across the curriculum where appropriate.
