ArtStart/ArtStudio/ArtSmart

The programme includes an introductory video, bus transport and a guided Gallery visit of one hour. ArtStart and ArtSmart are collection-based programmes which respond to different achievement objective levels.

ArtStart is an introduction to the Gallery and addresses the achievement objectives for levels 1 - 4. It will encourage students to look at, consider and talk about works of art. It will explore how different media influence the communication of ideas and examine the purpose of images and objects and the contexts in which they were made, viewed and valued.

To view and print the ArtStart 2006 programme and the Term 2 2006 programme, which is in Portable Document format (PDF), you will need Adobe Acrobat. This is available for free downloading from the Adobe website.

ArtStudio an LEOTC programme at Auckland Art Gallery

From July 2006, the Gallery will be introducing ArtStudio, practical art programmes for schools in its temporary venue - formerly the New Gallery.

ArtStudio programmes will combine an encounter with works of art followed by a practical workshop in our ArtStudio. The programme will focus on themes such as signs and symbols of identity's well as the work of significant New Zealand and Pacific artists.

Senior students will have the opportunity of working with a practising artist who will talk about their own working methods then mentor the students through the process of refining ideas toward a series of works.

ArtStudio will assist teachers in delivering the curriculum by providing learning experiences in the unique environment provided by the Gallery and its displays.

ArtSmart will address the achievement objectives for levels 5 - 8 and focuses on more structured analysis and research by interpreting and communicating ideas as well as understanding the contexts for art. It is directed to students who are required to analyse and research topics in art. It can be tied to research projects and used as a tool for the development of student's own ideas or as a response to specific exhibitions or artists work.

The Art Gallery Explorer is a 15-minute video which takes students behind the scenes into Gallery storage and conservation areas as well as introducing ways of talking and thinking about works of art.

It is only available with access programme visits and will be sent to your school for viewing in the week before your visit.

You can book these programmes NOW, contact us - we will do the rest!
