If these walls could talk...
Auckland Art Gallery's volunteer guides have brought our remarkable
collection of artworks to life for over 20 years. We are about to enter a new
chapter in our history with the opening of our redeveloped gallery in 2011 and
we are looking for applicants now for our training course intake mid 2010. This
will be the most exciting and challenging time to begin this role at Auckland
Art Gallery, bringing art and people together in our beautiful new galleries and
their surroundings.
In 2011, we will be offering interactive tours that will address not only our
magnificent collection displays but also the unique elements of our building,
its historical and cultural significance and its environment.
You will interact with a diverse range of visitors experiencing the gallery
for the first time travellers, locals, senior students and interest groups.
Our training course will provide you with a unique insight into the gallery,
its collection and functions as well as developing the skills essential to
presenting engaging tours.
The Gallery requires a two-year commitment of your time, hard work and
enthusiasm; in return, we offer the rewards of a shared knowledge and passion
for art, among colleagues and visitors. You will become a volunteer member of
the gallery's staff and as such will:
- demonstrate a passion for and openness to the visual arts
- display an ability to engage diverse audiences with animated and thoughtful
tours
- a willingness to extend your knowledge through research to support your
tours
- demonstrate an understanding of art history and New Zealand culture
- act as a host in gallery spaces
- deliver key institutional messages in a conscientious and professional
manner
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge about exhibitions and works of art.
Position applications can be made in advance of mid 2010 training with a
letter of interest and brief curriculum vitae.
