| 18 February -
03 December 2006 The first major exhibition of Michael Smither's work since
1984, this hugely appealing show will bring a focus towards one of
New Zealand's finest realist painters. The exhibition looks at his
New Plymouth years, a time of astonishing visual invention where
Michael Smither used his own autobiography as the driver of his
vision, producing many key and now familiar images of his family
and friends, seaside and landscape, and perceptions of religious
faith and politics. Michael Smither - The Wonder Years is
accompanied by a new catalogue written by Senior Curator Ron
Brownson and a double chapter DVD. The DVD will include the artist
discussing key works from the show, and a piano recording of his 21
Piano Pieces, performed by David Guerin. Admission Charge Touring
