Stanley Spencer was an eclectic English artist who absorbed the simple clarity of Giotto's fourteenth century religious narratives alongside the Modernist desire to find the significant and timeless in the rituals of daily life.

Landscape studies and portraiture became the launching point for grand-scale biblical narratives played out in his home village of Cookham, the local residents taking the place of apostles, saints and angels.

The exhibition contains a selection of religious studies, portraits, narratives and landscapes, each of which demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.
