What do you think of this?

No, really, what do you think of this? Mind blowing? Mind numbing? Does it remind you of a Hawkes Bay vineyard in those last days of autumn? Or maybe that musty painting your Auntie has hanging above her fireplace?

You're the expert, so share some thoughts with the world by posting in the comments box below.

Clever Dick

I like it. Simple, eye-catching and colourful.

Nothing much really.

I think it is a homage to the works of Tom Kreisler on boards with texts. Dick would think so, too!

I like it. It holds my attention - the question first; the different lettering, colours and sizes; the background colours of woody brown, yellow and green, keep me intrigued. Is the black shape a moon eclipsed or a hint of possible wholeness? Is it a football, with Kick OFF? The McCahon Tau 'T', the swaztika 'S' and the distorted question mark? Thankfully, I have no definitive answers. Thank you for the image.

I like it. Arty, colourful. I like its graphic, retro appeal. How often do we brush past art and don't think about it at all? Whether you like it or not this gets you thinking.

It's the pupil of an eye looking back at me with a message. Maybe the artwork is asking me what I think of myself?

Interesting in the respect that it's not offering anything other than an open ended question, and how paradoxical it is to ask a question over nothing. I guess it makes me ask "Why?". Why did Dick use the colours he did? Why did he use oils so paint something so simple? Why not acrylics? Why does he care for an opinion? Or maybe how big is this? Over all, I wouldn't be compelled to give this work so much time if it weren't for it being on an opinion post. I appreciate the use of text in art, but if you're delivering a literal message or question, why not cut it right back to just that, as someone like John Reynolds might? For me, in this case, the aesthetics of this work aren't particularly memorable.

I was inspired but in a prefoundly lackluster way, i felt moved to become involved with art and even the worlds environment ethos of recycling, however i was unable to recognise from where the inspiration came. Did the art inspire me or was i already inspired and the art simply help me recognise this inspiration?!

This doesn't show any artistic talent. Boring to look at. Once you have read the message there is nothing left.Bin it.
