Kids Club - art for children

11am and 2pm every Sunday

Sundays will never be boring once you come and join in on the fun at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Look, learn and create in special workshops with Tutor, Kate Sellar and the Gallery Guides.

Only $8 per child which includes all materials.
Ideal for all budding artists from 5 to 10 years.

Workshops start promptly at 11am and 2pm so please arrive early to confirm your booking.

Workshops may be documented and images used by the Gallery for publicising children and family activities. Please let Gallery staff know if do not wish your child to be filmed or photographed.

Let's get cubist!
Picasso invented an amazing way of combining two views of a person into one face. So we are going to have a go and what better way than to be inspired than by the master himself – Pablo Picasso!

Where the wild beasts are
There actually was a group of artists called the Wild Beasts or in French – The Fauves! Their paintings shocked people with their very bright colours and bold brush stokes. Today we take inspiration from one them to create our own Fauvist masterpiece.

Design your own waka
Imagine that you have to make a modern day voyage to a new land. Let's see what sort of amazing sea craft you can come up with. Just think of all the things you would need to take with you and most importantly what will it look like?

Big Day Art
The whole family is invited to the special day of free events to mark the opening of our new exhibition Taste: Food & Feasting in Art. We have the crew from Sticky TV - Kanoa and Sam plus TK and Head Chef from Cool Kids Cooking. H and the lads from West Lynn Organic Meats are going to show us how to make sausages. Tim Aspinall carves a butter sculpture.
Loads of other demonstrations, where you could be called on to help - Cara Telle decorating a traditional German gingerbread house or Biljana Vraniqi with her delicious Yugoslavian food-making demo. Arno Sturmy shows us how to make simple homemade chocolate and Renny Aprea, plated bread for home cooking with Gilles Petit preparing a French apple tart.
Plus face painting , an activity centre and Kate in the studio cooking up her usual art storm.
Best of all you don’t need to book and it runs from 10am to 4pm and the whole day.
Entry charge – one can of easy to prepare food for City Mission

Howd'ya like ya fish?
Fish are definitely on the art menu today and we have plenty of fish artists to inspire us with dangling a line into our sea of imagination to create one beautiful chalk and dye art work – and this one won't get away.

The Auckland Art Gallery runs exciting holiday art programmes every school holidays.

Ideal for all budding artists aged from 5 to 13 years.
10am to 12pm
Cost: $12 per child includes all materials and light refreshments.
